Hundreds of Items Collected for Care Packages Going Out to Our Local Troops.
Each year, during the holiday season, the PortSide ESOP chooses a local non-profit organization for our Christmas fund drive. This year we chose Adopt a Soldier Door County. This incredible organization sends out care packages multiple times a year to over 192 local soldiers and local U.S. Coast Guard that are serving stateside and overseas. PortSide collected goods and cash to go towards these care packages.
It all started about 12 years ago by Nancy Hutchinson, she and her family wanted to send a care package to her oldest son's friend, Matt Olson who joined the Marines after high school. She challenged the students from Sevastopol High School to collect items for the care package. They ended up collecting over 40 boxes worth of items to send to him and his entire platoon. The effort just continued to grow from there. To date, they send care packages multiple times a year to over 192 local soldiers and the local U.S. Coast Guard that are serving stateside and overseas. In total, sending well over 1,000 boxes each years!
All of us at PortSide were honored to to support this very worthy cause. If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, take a look at their website, Adopt a Soldier Door County.
