June 2022 Remodel Project

One Very Large Bathroom Converted into Two

This month, we take a look at a bathroom renovation. The owners of this home had an overly spacious main bathroom that did not make the best use of space. They wanted to break it up to create two full bathrooms, one being a master bath and the other a full main bath. They also opened up a closet in the master bedroom to connect to the master bath, giving them the full, master suite they desired. The new bathrooms have a beautiful contemporary design, are more practical, and a second full bath is much more convenient when guests come to visit.

Details of This Remodeling Project:

  • Demo'd everything in the existing bathroom, including tub, shower, flooring and all trim, vanity, doors, and windows
  • Framed exterior walls for new patio door and windows, and interior walls to create two full bathrooms, and a walk-in closet with access to the new master bathroom
  • Main bath includes tall linen cabinet, custom-built vanity with quartz countertop, and custom-tiled walk-in shower
  • Master bath includes custom-built dual sink vanity with quartz countertop, tall linen cabinet, and custom-tiled walk-in shower with bench
  • Installed Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring in master closet to match bedroom, and ceramic tile flooring in both bathrooms.

~ From the Homeowners:

"We've engaged in several major renovation projects over the years, so we understand that issues like design changes, staffing shortages, and supply chain glitches are normal. What matters is how the contractor reacts to resolve the inevitable problems. PortSide and their subcontractors were by far the most skilled we've encountered. The design phase was able to uncover a number of problems that otherwise may have led to big change orders. There were a few anxious days when subs and materials didn’t show up as planned, but PortSide was able to minimize schedule changes that otherwise would have sunk our project. Our Construction Manager, Joel Daoust, made sure we always knew the status, good or bad. And the quality has been great - 9 months later only one sub had to come back, but fixed the problem in ten minutes. We couldn’t be more pleased with PortSide."
